A little more detail:
The Hepatitis C Antibody test is essential for identifying exposure to hepatitis C, a viral infection that primarily affects the liver and can lead to severe complications if untreated. This test detects antibodies the immune system produces in response to the virus, which typically develop a few weeks to months post-exposure. A positive result doesn’t necessarily confirm an active infection but indicates past exposure, prompting additional tests to assess whether the infection is ongoing. The anti-HCV test is particularly beneficial for those with increased exposure risks, such as people who inject drugs, healthcare workers, or individuals born during certain high-risk years. Given that hepatitis C is often asymptomatic until severe liver damage occurs, screening and early detection play critical roles in effective treatment and management. Early diagnosis allows healthcare providers to initiate antiviral treatments that can prevent the progression to chronic liver disease, improve quality of life, and reduce the risk of transmission.
